What is the optimum temperature for a Cold Plunge?
The optimum temperature really depends on the individual and the goals they may have. The standard temperature is 50-59 degrees F for at least 5-10 minutes. Although, high performance athletes may use colder temperatures between 42-50 degrees F with a duration of 3-6 minutes.
How do you take a Cold Plunge?
For beginners the best way is to submerge your body into the water while keeping your hands and head above the water. Focus on your breathing and remain calm as the first few minutes are always the hardest. Typically the bath would last about 5-10 minutes.
More experienced methods may include a quick head dunk into the water and keeping hands in the water for full recovery benefits. We also recommend using a colder temperature for a shorter amount of time.
What are the benefits of the Hot Plunge?
Better Muscle Recovery. The buoyancy of water reduces the impact of gravity on skeletal and muscle tissue, alleviating tension on the body. Combined with warmth, buoyancy in a tub of water loosens muscles before a workout, or soothes them afterward.
Better Sleep.Spending time in a hot plunge prior to going to sleep will help separate the day’s activities from the night of rest ahead. Some studies suggest that soaking in hot water can ease the transition into a deeper sleep by reducing tension and stress.
What is Salt Therapy?
Salt therapy (halotherapy) is a natural, holistic, drug-free, and touchless modality that is currently in high demand and has never been more essential since it can aid in:
- Cleaning the respiratory system
- Improving lung function
- Boosting the immune system
- Enhancing mental wellness and reducing stress
- Rejuvenating skin
- Enhancing athletic performance, endurance, and recovery
A true salt therapy session at Elysian uses a halogenerator , which crushes, grinds, and disperses salt as micron-sized particles into the air in a specially designed room. The only thing you need to do to reap the benefits of this treatment is breathe.
How Does Salt Therapy Work?
Salt therapy works in three different ways. Because salt is super absorbent, the inhaled dry salt acts like a sponge attracting foreign substances along its path through the respiratory tract.
The dry salt can be imagined as behaving like a toothbrush that cleans the respiratory system removing the build-up of foreign elements that cause various respiratory ailments and conditions. Salt is also anti-inflammatory, so the inhaled dry salt particles may help to reduce inflammation in the entire respiratory tract and widen the airway passages.
A clean respiratory system naturally results in higher oxygen intake, increased energy, and an improved immune system. Lastly, salt also acts as an anti-bacterial agent, by dissolving bacteria and pollutants lodged in the respiratory tract. These are then either coughed up or naturally expelled by the body.
